Yesterday I was going through the new posts on the blogs that I follow and was so pleased to see that Melanie of Another Day In… had posted Thankful Thursday #1 and will be continuing to post Thankful Thursdays. This got me thinking… I asked Melanie if she would mind if I also did a weekly gratitude posting and she thought it was wonderful. Thank you Melanie for being such a caring and sharing soul.
As a therapist I am a huge believer in gratitude. I know that you can’t be grateful and negative at the same time, maybe within seconds, and not in the same moment. When I find the negative self-chatter going in my head it’s gratitude that I use, as my tool of choice, to stop it. Sometimes it’s so strong that I forget I have a tool to stop it!
It’s human nature to want to better ourselves and it’s also human nature to do that process by coming from the perspective of lack: what we don’t have, who we are not being (the most important one according to me) and what we are not doing. This doesn’t work. It’s like trying to build a house without pouring the foundation, you can only work with what you have, who you are and what you do – we need to build on those to better ourselves. Gratitude is a reminder of our true abundance and I consider that beautiful. It’s a gift from your soul to all souls, including yourself.
With that said…
This is not an actual picture of the flooding, this is a marsh in Aruba.
I have such loving and wonderful people in my life. If I felt it was appropriate I would take a photo of each and every one of them and pay homage weekly to one. They all know who they are and I love them back with every fiber of my being. This photo was also taken in Aruba.
Look at that punim (yiddish for face), I love the way she lays her head on me and looks at me with such adoration. I rescued you Mitzi, but you saved me. She’s my daughter and I think she’s da bomb!
Yes I have much to be grateful for and will be posting it weekly on Fridays. I hope you too are grateful for all the beauty and wonder that is in your life and that is in you.
May your journey be delicious and the company you keep inspiring and supportive.

Thanks Paul, I am truly sorry for your loss. You had a big girl. I understand, how you feel. I rescued Mitzi in May 2012 and I already had a Ellie, a 15 yr old Jack Russell. Sadly Ellie went a few months later in August 2012 and that’s when Mitzi saved me, I was devastated. Mitzi was new to me and Ellie was part of the family since she was 6 months, I wandered the house aimlessly for a week until I realized I wasn’t being fair to Mitzi. Sending much loving energy across the water from Canada.

I’m glad to hear that you weren’t affected by the flooding. I forgot that you are in AB and now I feel bad that I never asked if you were okay. Mtzi is a cutie! I’ll have to do a post about my schnauzer one day too.

Oh my, don’t feel bad at all Melanie. Red Deer was pretty good, it’s not like Calgary! I would love to see your Schnauzzie! I rescued Mitzi May 2012, she was 10 at the time and I had a 15 year old Jack Russel, unfortunately I had to put Ellie down last August she had dementia and was having mini strokes. Mitzi saved me, I don’t know what I would have done without her. Mitzi loves to play, she tries to with every dog she sees at the park, the groomer, everywhere lol. I will be looking for another rescue come September.

I’ll try to squeeze Keiko in next week then. She’s 7 and loves to be outside. She comes hiking with us and loves to run around the dog park. She greets other dogs but doesn’t really play with them. She does play with my parents’ three dogs though. It’s amazing the kind of effect dogs can have on us. Keiko was my first baby but Parker was my first pregnancy. She’s very much a part of the family.

Can’t wait to see her. Oh Melanie, I think I’m insane. I said I was looking at getting another rescue in September…well a dog (maltese bichon x) I wanted to rescue before I got Mitzi needs rescuing again and this time with the adopted sister (maltese). I put in for doing the fostering with the thought that if it works out I’ll adopt. I really am a Psycho Therapist lol!
Melanie said:
Aww, I love that you’re looking to rescue/foster a dog! I couldn’t do that unless I knew for sure I’d get to adopt the dog. I attach way too easily! I can’t even walk through the SPCA, otherwise I want to bring them ALL home with me!
Vicki Wolfson said:
I haven’t been approved yet and I know there are more applicants, we’ll see, and there will be TWO Maltese plus Mitzi! I would like to adopt them if it works.
Melanie said:
I was wondering if there were two or not because you referred to a sister but you also said A dog. That would be awesome to rescue them both!

Sorry for being confusing, I was so excited when I wrote that yesterday
